Star India batter KL Rahul made a sensational comeback to international cricket as he played an incredible innings of 111* off 106 balls during the Super 4 fixture in Asia Cup 2023 against Pakistan on Monday, September 11. With his knock, Rahul shut the mouth of his critics who had been after him due to his low returns with the bat from a long time. Rahul also got a special praise from his wife and Bollywood actor Athiya Shetty for his knock.

Athiya took to Instagram to share the photograph of Rahul celebrating his hundred and wrote, “Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise… 🩵You are everything, I love you.”

Rahul resumed his innings on 17* (28) on Monday, September 11, the reserve the day of the match, after rain didn’t allow India to continue their innings on Sunday.

The 31-year-old began his innings cautiously as he scored just eight more runs in the next 17 deliveries. Rahul broke loose in the 30th over as he crunched Shaheen Afridi for a boundary through point in the 30th over. He further smacked Iftikhar Ahmed for a four and a six on consecutive deliveries in the very next over to move into the 40s.

The middle-order batter reached his fifty off 60 balls in the 34th over with a single against Faheem Ashraf. Rahul further shifted gears after his fifty and smacked Shadab Khan for a boundary and a six in the very next over and set his eyes on the next milestone. The Bangalore-born batter reached the three-figure mark in the 47th over with a double against Naseem Shah.

He got involved in a massive 233-run unbeaten stand with Virat Kohli (122* off 94) off 193 balls as the duo helped India post a monumental score of 356/2 in the first innings.

Rahul kept wickets in the second innings

Further ahead in the game, Rahul even kept wickets from the seventh over onwards and took the catch of Mohammed Rizwan in the 12th over to give Pakistan their third blow.  Meanwhile, Pakistan are staring down the barrel at 108/5 after 27 overs with Iftikhar Ahmed (15* off 26) and Shadab Khan (5* off 7) at the crease.
