Within a span of three months, former India cricketer, Yusuf Pathan decided to contest for the Lok Sabha Elections in the Berhampore constituency to receiving a warm welcome from his Kolkata Knight Riders teammate, Manoj Tiwary, upon standing as a potential candidate for the Trinamool Congress. Subsequently, Yusuf emerged victorious in the elections, securing 37.9% of the total votes (524516 votes), as declared by the Election Commission of India on June 4. This journey marks a remarkable and tumultuous shift from the realm of cricket to the arena of politics. This presents a stark juxtaposition with his younger brother, Irfan, who opted for a career shift into sports commentary following his retirement from professional cricket.
In a wholehearted post on his official X handle, the 41-year-old shared a charming photograph alongside his father, Mehmood Khan Pathan. Yusuf, attired in a green T-shirt, and his father, clad in blue, jointly held the Certificate of Election, emanating expressions of pride and joy. Yusuf expressed his profound happiness in the caption, equating it to the pride he felt representing the nation in cricket. He articulated his enduring vision in politics, likening it to his aspirations during his cricketing career—to contribute towards the nation's development and progress in all facets. In conclusion, he portrayed his father as a proud parent, visibly elated by his son's remarkable achievement, as evidenced by the beaming smiles on both their faces.
