'You didn’t just play the game, you taught us how to carry ourselves through it' - Yuvraj Singh's heartwarming ode on Sachin Tendulkar's birthday
"He was my childhood hero before he even knew my name," Yuvraj Singh wrote about his idol, Sachin Tendulkar.
The legendary Sachin Tendulkar turned 51 on Thursday, April 24. The cricket fraternity is celebrating the icon's birthday and Yuvraj Singh, one of Sachin's best friends and a former India teammate, posted a heartwarming video to make the auspicious occasion even more special.
Yuvraj and Sachin represented India together in 198 matches across formats. The two stalwarts of Indian cricket helped the Men in Blue win the ODI World Cup after 28 years in 2011. Their camaraderie grew over the years and went beyond cricket. Yuvraj has always considered Sachin as his idol and mentor. Sachin has also lauded the Punjab all-rounder's contribution to Indian cricket and his brave fight against cancer on several occasions.
On the occasion of Sachin's birthday, Yuvraj posted a touching video on his official 'X' (formerly Twitter) handle, showing glimpses of some iconic knocks played by the Little Master. Yuvraj also mentions in the video that he did not want to take a shower after shaking hands with Sachin for the first time.
The former Punjab captain also wrote an endearing caption, where he acknowledged Sachin, not just for his greatness but for his grace and humility. Yuvraj thanked Sachin for teaching players how to carry themselves.
"He was my childhood hero before he even knew my name. And then one day, I walked into a dressing room and saw him there. The Master himself. But what stayed with me wasn’t just his greatness. It was his grace. For all the centuries, the cheers, the weight of a billion hopes, he carried it all with the gentlest humility. Happy Birthday, Master. You didn’t just play the game. You taught us how to carry ourselves through it. Loads of love always," Yuvraj wrote.
