Rohit Sharma, the vice-captain of the Indian national cricket team, has been a prolific run-scorer for the national team over the years. Ever since he has started opening the batting, his career has gotten a new lease of life. In ODI and T20I cricket, the Mumbai batter has been able to establish himself. In 2019, he was one of the leading run-scorers in the limited-over formats.
Even in Test cricket, Rohit has weaved his magic after he opened in the format from being a middle-order batsman. He was a part of India’s tour of New Zealand and he also played in the T20I series. However, he developed an injury and missed out on the ODI and Test series. Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw replaced him, but India badly missed the services of Sharma.
Rohit Sharma- a great exponent of the pull shot
Sharma is now set to ply his trade for the Mumbai Indians in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). But the start of the IPL has been postponed from March 29 to April 15. Under Rohit, MI have emerged as the most successful team, having won the championship in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019. Rohit has also been able to weave his magic for his IPL in the last few years.
Rohit is also a great exponent of playing the short-pitched deliveries. He plays the pull stroke with sheer authority and with precision. Moreover, the fact that he plays them off the front foot makes them look more authoritative. But the International Cricket Council might not think so.
The Twitter handle of the apex cricket board posted a picture where Herschelle Gibbs, Ricky Ponting, Sir Viv Richards and Virat Kohli were seen, playing the pull shot. The ICC captioned it and wrote, “Which batsman, past or present, has the best pull shot, in your opinion?”
Rohit didn’t quite like the way that the ICC didn’t include his name in the list of the batsmen. He also took a funny jibe at the board asking whether it is having difficulty in working from home. Rohit replied and wrote, “Someone’s missing here ?? Not easy to work from home I guess,”
