Sourav Ganguly advises Zaheer Khan to lose some weight on the latter's birthday
Zaheer made his international debut under Ganguly in 2000.
Zaheer Khan is amongst the greatest fast bowlers India have ever produced. He made his debut in the 2000 ICC Champions Trophy against Kenya and didn’t look back ever since. He made his Test debut a month later against Bangladesh in Dhaka. He was initially a tad inconsistent and moreover, frequent injuries also didn’t help his cause of staying put in his position in the team.
In 2003, he had the privilege of playing for the national team in the final of the World Cup against Australia at Wanderers in Johannesburg. Unfortunately, he was carted across the park by the belligerent Aussie batsmen. Back in 2006, he plied his trade for Worcestershire in the English County Championship and the stint helped him refurbish his skills to a significant extent.
Dada wishes his old teammate
He was a member of the Indian team in the 2007 World Cup that was eliminated from the event after the loss to Bangladesh in the first round itself. Nevertheless, he churned out some brilliant spells and guided his team to glory in the 2011 World Cup in the sub-continent. In 2015, he announced his international retirement. His last donned the national colours in 2014.
The experienced campaigner also played 100 matches in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) in which he picked up 102 wickets. The fast bowler is celebrating his 40th birthday and wishes have poured in for him from every nook and corner of the country, Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian captain under whom Zaheer first played for India, also wished him on the auspicious occasion.
Moreover, Dada also advised him to lose weight and hailed him as a strength of the team. He took to Twitter and wrote, “Happy birthday @ImZaheer zed K.. have a great year …please loose some weight…u were India’s strength,”
