The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ushered in a new era with former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly taking over as the President of the apex body. Since then, he has set the ball rolling. One of the foremost things that the former Indian captain did was to meet the selection panel as well as the superstar duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma on the sidelines of the selection committee meeting for the upcoming series against Bangladesh.
And, now the BCCI president is set to meet his former deputy and the current head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Rahul Dravid to discuss the roadmap of Indian cricket’s feeder line. Dravid, the former India A and U19 coach, took over as the head of NCA in July, and has already drawn a roadmap for the institution and Ganguly is expected to give his inputs during the meeting.
The meeting will be attended by BCCI’s newly elected office-bearers who took charge on October 23. NCA CEO Tufan Ghosh will also be a part of the discussions.
Sourav Ganguly to stay updated with new NCA project
For the past few years, the National Cricket Academy, which was supposed to be the feeder line of Indian cricket, has been reduced to a rehabilitation centre, with injured cricketers using it as a platform to come back into the national set-up. Sourav Ganguly acknowledged the same after taking over as BCCI president and is expected to be updated on the new NCA project, which is currently being developed.
“Ganguly and Dravid will be discussing the way forward for NCA and the issues it faces,” a BCCI official said as quoted by Republic TV.
Players rehab details
It remains to be seen whether the new president seeks details on the rehabilitation plans of players like Prithvi Shaw, who will be back from the doping ban along with strength and conditioning programmes for the injured duo of Hardik Pandya and ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.
Many players including the great VVS Laxman have high expectations from the superstar duo of Ganguly and Dravid in reviving the NCA. “If you ask me one thing, it would be how Sourav can revive the NCA. The greatness of this Indian team is their bench strength,” Laxman had said last week as quoted by Republic TV.
