Sourav Ganguly clears air about calling Virender Sehwag's comment foolish

Former Indian captain and a member of Cricket Advisory committee, Sourav Ganguly, took to Twitter to clear out the air surrounding his statement on Virender Sehwag, which he claimed was distorted and not what he intended to say. The backstory here remains that Sehwag claimed his “lack of setting” within the BCCI and Cricket Advisory Committee was the main reason for not being able to make it far in the race for the Head Coach of India, even though he is good friends with VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar.

In the same chat show for the news channel, he also added that the CoA had to pick the best among the ten candidates and that had to be Ravi Shastri. Sehwag also clarified that he would never have applied for the job had he known Shastri would also show interest. Sehwag said he had even asked Shastri why he hadn’t applied for the role during Champions Trophy in England. So, in all probability, this was most likely Sehwag speaking in jest, but perhaps with the wrong choice of words.

According to reports from various news agencies, former India captain Sourav Ganguly on Saturday said that Virender Sehwag “spoke foolishly” when he claimed that “lack of setting” cost him the national team chief coach’s job. He was cited as saying, “I’ve got nothing to say. Sehwag spoke foolishly (bokar moton boleche),” by PTI at Eden Gardens.

However, the CAB President cleared the air saying, “My quote on Sehwag completely false ..right quote ..Sehwag very dear to me .will speak to him soon ..”

His clarification in the Tweet makes sense because it is unlikely that Ganguly would not use such harsh words publicly for someone like Sehwag, considering his own reputation as well his equation with Sehwag. Following this fiasco, most people on social media are blaming the media for misinterpreting the former’s words in order to sensationalize and create a new issue.
