Former India captain Sourav Ganguly took to Twitter to congratulate the India U19 boys for clinching the U-19 Asia Cup title in Dhaka on Sunday. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, India U19 got off to a brilliant start. Their openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Anuj Rawat stitched a century partnership. After the duo departed, skipper Simran Singh and Ayush Badoni went into T20 mode to take India’s total over 300. They smashed five boundaries and nine sixes, maintaining a strike rate of over 175.

Sri Lanka U19, however, didn’t get the start they needed in the chase. They lost their first wicket with just 20 runs on the board and had lost half their side while needing another 200 runs to win the match. Sri Lanka U19’s lower order were no match for India U19’s bowlers and were bundled out for just 160. India U-19 thus won the final by a massive margin of 144 runs and lifted the U19 Asia Cup for the sixth time.

Harsh Tyagi was adjudged Man of the Match for his exceptional figures of 6-38 off his ten overs. Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal bagged the coveted Man of the Series award for his consistency at the top of the order.

Cricket is solid in India

Sourav Ganguly, visibly pleased with the way the youngsters performed in the U-19 Asia Cup, tweeted, “@bcci well done the under 19 boys ..one team won the World Cup another team won the Asia cup..This the reason why the senior team remains strong year after year ..this game is solid in this country…other’s to learn from it..”

Earlier this year, India U19 also won the U19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand, defeating Australia in the final. They were led by Prithvi Shaw, who made his Test debut for Team India on Thursday, and announced himself in style with a century in his very first appearance. India were also crowned champions of Asia a couple of weeks ago in Dubai after they defeated Bangladesh in a thrilling final.
