Sourav Ganguly donates Rs 10 lakh to Tollygunge Artists' Forum to help cine workers

The Coronavirus pandemic enforced many countries to go into complete lockdown in March. India was no different to it as the government announced a nationwide lockdown since March 24 and with it, stopped the earning of the daily wage workers and poor people. Apart from them, even the behind the scenes workers of the film and Television industry were left wanting and struggled.

Prominent names from all the fields came forward to help such people and the latest to join the bandwagon is the former India captain and the current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly. He has already done a lot of social work to revive the lives of poor and needy people during these tough times.

During the lockdown, Ganguly donated 2000 kgs of rice worth Rs 50 lakh and also donated money to feed 10,000 families through his foundation. This time the senior journalist Gautam Bhattacharya has revealed that Dada has donated Rs 10 lakh to Tollygunge Artists’ Forum in order to help the distressed cine workers in West Bengal.

He also added that the former cricketer has already done a lot for the struggling people during COVID-19 pandemic and after Amphan cyclone tragedy in the state. “During Covid and in the post Amphan tragedy @SGanguly99 has done a huge amount of social work and contributed a lot.But never knew that he has donated 10 Lakhs to Tollygunge Artists’ Forum for the distressed cine workers.Worth an applause this !!” the tweet read.

Sourav Ganguly busy in chalking out IPL plan

Apart from all the social work he’s been doing, Sourav Ganguly has also been busy chalking out a proper plan to stage the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year. The cash-rich league was set to commence on March 29 but has been suspended until further notice due to the pandemic. Recently, Ganguly confirmed that the BCCI is ready to stage the competition behind closed doors and is exploring all possible options.

“The BCCI is working on all possible options to ensure that we are able to stage the IPL this year, even if it means playing the tournament in empty stadiums. The fans, franchisees, players, broadcasters, sponsors and all other stakeholders are keenly looking forward to the possibility of IPL being hosted this year,” he wrote in a letter to all the affiliated members/units of the BCCI.
