Sourav Ganguly hails Kagiso Rabada’s yorker against Andre Russell as ‘ball of IPL’

The other day, it was a brilliant yorker from Delhi lad Mohammed Shami that had castled Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) Andre Russell at the Eden Gardens but to the pacer’s dismay, the delivery was called invalid as his team Kings XI Punjab had failed to abide by the fielding rules. Russell didn’t waste his second life and played a murderous knock to see KKR win the game.

There was yet another opportunity for the Caribbean to do the same at the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground on Sunday against Delhi Capitals (DC) but this time there was another yorker and it was not a no-ball and stopped the KKR just three runs short of the opponents’ score in the super over.

KKR required just 11 runs in the super over to pick up their third straight win in the tournament after the game ended in a thrilling tie, thanks to the Kolkata side’s brilliant comeback both with the bat and ball, but South African pacer Kagiso Rabada had some other plans.

Russell, who displayed yet another devastating show with the bat in the match (62 off 28 balls) came out to bat in the super over but it did not work out as the young Rabada produced a fast inswinging yorker that rattled the batsman’s timber. Later, Capitals’ advisor Sourav Ganguly told IPLT20.com that the delivery that Rabada produced will probably be the “ball of the IPL”.

‘Rabada delivery was unbelievable’

“Kagiso Rabada’s Super Over and the ball that he bowled to Andre Russell is probably going to be the ball of the IPL. To bowl that kind of a delivery to Andre Russell, who is probably in the form of his life, is unbelievable,” the 46-year-old who had led KKR in the IPL in two occasions, said.

The South African pacer defended 10 overs in the super over to give Capitals their second win in the tournament in three games. Ganguly hailed the victory and said it was a special one for a side which has struggled over the seasons and revamped itself (even changed its name from Daredevils to Capitals) to see a change of luck.

Rabada defended the runs in the Super Over to steer Delhi Capitals to a thrilling win and the former KKR captain termed the victory against his erstwhile franchise is as “special” as Delhi team has gone through a prolonged rough patch over the years.

Ganguly also felt sorry for opener Prithvi Shaw, who fell just a run short of his century in the match.
