India registered a spectacular chase at Durban as they secured their first win at the venue. While Faf Du Plessis scored a valiant hundred in the first innings, Virat Kohli’s brilliance with the bat completely overshadowed it. India went on to chase the target comfortably with 4 overs to spare.
Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly was all praise for Virat Kohli. Speaking to India Today, The former India skipper just couldn’t stop heaping praise on the incumbent Indian captain for leading from the front. He further explained why the South African team needed to rework their combination.
If Kohli would’ve got out there, India won’t have won the game
Virat Kohli went on to score his first One Day International century on South African soil. Describing him as a special player, Ganguly felt that India may have well lost the game if Kohli got out early. Further showering praises on him, he described how the Indian skipper had his plans set whenever he arrived at the crease.
“Virat Kohli is really special. The more you and I see him, he seems unbelievable. The chase was just remarkable. You may say the wicket didn’t have much pace or movement as a typical Durban pitch. But if Kohli would’ve got out there, India won’t have won the game. He plans out where to score against, which bowler to attack and whom to go after. That’s what makes him special.”
The sky is the limit for him, he’s the greatest alongside Sachin
Virat is widely regarded as one of the greatest limited overs batsmen to have played the game after Sachin. Ganguly remarked that if Kohli maintained his fitness for the next few years, he will scale all heights. He further mentioned that the standards Kohli had set was too high and it’s an absolute pleasure to watch him bat.
“I’ve witnessed Sachin Tendulkar play and with all that talk going around him closing on to Sachin’s records. I don’t see a reason why not. He keeps getting better and better. The sky is the limit for him. And it’s such a pleasure watching him bat every time. I think he’s the greatest alongside Sachin. But God knows what’s gonna happen, after 7-8 years if he continues to maintain his fitness.” He told India Today.
