Cricket boards and associations are dealt with major financial setbacks amid the COVID-19 outbreak. Meanwhile, BCCI is on the verge of facing losses around INR 4000 Crores if IPL gets cancelled in the ongoing year. And, now, Sourav Ganguly, the BCCI chief has given hints that players might have to suffer pay cuts in the future for the same.

Recently, the Afghanistan Cricket Board had also announced a 25% pay cut of their coaching staff. Moreover, they also clarified the fact that pay cut might be increased if international cricket doesn’t resume by the month of June.

Sourav Ganguly says if IPL is not organized, then BCCI will suffer huge losses

In an interview, Sourav Ganguly, the BCCI chief said that they will analyze the financial condition of the board before taking any call. He added the fact that if Indian Premier League 2020 is not organized in the ongoing year, the BCCI will have to suffer losses around INR 4000 Crores. As per him, it will be a massive setback for the Indian cricket board. The 47-year-old looked optimistic and recited that if IPL gets a go-ahead, then their players will not have to suffer any kind of pay cuts in their salaries.

Indian cricketers’ pay structure is divided into grade system. The players in A+ category earn Rs 7 crore annually followed by the cricketers in A, B and C category, who get INR 5 Crores, 3 Crores and 1 Crore respectively.

“We will have to examine our financial situation, see how much money we have and take a call. Not hosting the Indian Premier League (IPL) will cause losses to the tune of Rs 4,000 crore which is huge. If the IPL takes place, we won’t have to go in for pay cuts. We’ll manage things,” BCCI chief told mid-day.

New Zealand and Pakistan cricket boards have also issued the central contracts for the players. However, they have still not opened up on the salary structure that will be given to their cricketers. But, the chances are quite high that the players will have to suffer a pay-cut for the upcoming season 2020-21 amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
