India’s former captain Sunil Gavaskar has opened up on Virat Kohli’s claims of lack of communication during a press conference. The former cricketer stated that BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is the best person who can clear all the confusion. India’s Test skipper Kohli interacted with the media ahead of the South Africa series.
In the press conference, he spoke about the captaincy matter that has fetched in all the limelight lately. He reckoned that the BCCI never told him to not leave the T20I captaincy of team India. However, it is to be noted that earlier Ganguly had asserted that he had personally requested Kohli not to step down as T20I skipper.
Recently the board announced that Rohit Sharma will replace Kohli as the ODI skipper. Opening up on it the latter said that he was called up just 90 minutes before the selection meeting on 8th December 2021 and was informed about the same. This has left the cricketing fraternity all confused about the entire scenario.
Gavaskar thus feels that Ganguly should be asked about the discrepancy in what he said and what Kohli said. He further added that having a clear line of communication always helps.
It always helps to have a clear line of communication: Sunil Gavaskar
“I think it (Kohli’s comments) actually doesn’t bring the BCCI into the picture. I think it’s the individual who has to be asked where he got the impression he had conveyed such a message to Kohli. So that’s the only thing. Yes, he is the BCCI president and surely he should be asked why there is this discrepancy. He is probably the best person to ask about the discrepancy in what you seem to have to say and what the Indian captain has said.
Yes, it always helps to have a clear line of communication so that there is no speculation. So from now, from what has happened, there should be a clear line of communication, and the chairman of the selection committee can come down and say why he has been picked and why he has not been picked. Sometimes, even if that is not needed, a press release is also good enough. A good press release giving all the reasons makes life a lot easier,” Gavaskar told India Today.
