Former Indian cricketer and the current President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), Sourav Ganguly, is planning to construct a new cricket stadium on the outskirts of the city of Kolkata in West Bengal. The city already boasts of arguably the most celebrated cricket grounds in the country – the Eden Gardens. Eden has been one of the iconic venues in the country with brilliant seating capacity.

The atmosphere around the venue is always amazing and its beauty is adored by many. In fact, even the co-owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Shah Rukh Khan, had recently quoted that there is something very special about the Eden Gardens. Now, if the reports in OneIndia are to be believed, the CAB President is wishing to construct another cricket ground and a residential cricket ground.

Sourav Ganguly is reported to have already bought a 10 acres land in Rajarhat area in the outskirts of the city of Kolkata. As per the reports, Sourav is planning to call architects from Australia to discuss the construction of the academy. Sourav Ganguly is yet to make an official announcement but has hinted about it for sure.

“We need good grounds. Even if we ask for staging Ranji Trophy matches then we have only Kalyani stadium except for Eden Gardens,” he quoted.

Indoor Training center

Ganguly is also working on another project wherein there will be an indoor training center at the Jadavpur University ground at Salt Lake City in Kolkata. One of the officials of the CAB spoke about the same and confirmed the news as well. Ganguly is awaiting the confirmation from the Sports ministry of India.

“We are going to get Jadavpur University ground on a lease of around 25 years. Once the approval letter from Jadavpur University comes, construction work of stadium and a modern indoor training centre will start,” the official quoted.
