Sourav Ganguly not convinced with India leaving out KL Rahul in ODIs
He was also effusive in Jason Holder's praise.
There has been a lot of talk about KL Rahul’s ability to become the next big thing in Indian cricket. But somehow, he hasn’t been making it to the playing XI in the One-Day Internationals. The team management has continued to look at him as the backup opener and with Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan performing consistently, Rahul has had to sit out. However, Sourav Ganguly is not at all pleased with this move from the team and is finding it tough to accept the fact that a player like Rahul is warming the bench.
Team India’s loss in Pune has rung the warning bells for them with only 15 ODIs to go until the World Cup and there are a few issues which they are yet to ponder on. While the middle-order continues to be a problem, MS Dhoni‘s form is a major worry. To add to it, the third pacer is not yet finalised as well.
Selectors are leaving it too late
Sourav Ganguly in his column for the Times of India felt that the selectors have to look at solving the problem as soon as possible. He also went on to say that KL Rahul needs to play a good number of matches and wasn’t convinced with the team’s plans in regards to him.
“India has a lot to think about. I still believe Lokesh Rahul shouldn’t be sitting out. The middle-order desperately needs to be given a good look. The selectors are leaving it too late,” he wrote. Even in the ongoing fourth ODI, Rahul has been benched and the team has made up its mind it seems about the talented cricketer.
Meanwhile, the former Indian captain is impressed with the way Windies have played in the ODI series so far. He was effusive in praise of the skipper Jason Holder who has managed to bring the best out of his limited resources on the field.
