Sourav Ganguly plans Bangladesh trip to pay respect to PM Sheikh Hasina
Dada called her 'an amazing sport', seeing her spirit during the first day's play of the Day-Night Test.
Sheikh Hasina, the Honourable Prime Minister of Bangladesh, was one of the dignitaries present during the historic Day-Night Test in Kolkata. At the iconic Eden Gardens, she along with Mamata Banerjee, the West Bengal Chief Minister, rang the customary bell before the start of the pink-ball Test. On the second day, it was the turn of the legendary Viswanathan Anand to ring the bell.
Talking about the Bangladesh PM, Sourav Ganguly, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), sounded absolutely delighted. Dada called her ‘an amazing sport’ and was amazed by her spirit to watch the entire first day’s play from the venue itself rather than going back to the hotel. Quite expectantly, the 47-year-old Ganguly sent love and best wishes for the Prime Minister.
She’s really unbelievable, says Ganguly on Sheikh Hasina
“Your honourable Prime Minister is unbelievable. She’s an amazing sport. A prime minister saying to me I will not go to the hotel and will watch the entire day here. One cannot imagine that. So please send my love and well wishes to her,” Ganguly was quoted as saying in BDcrictime.
Moreover, Ganguly now plans to visit Bangladesh in March on the occasion of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birthday. “I will go to Bangladesh on the birthday of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in March only for her. Because she’s really unbelievable,” the former Indian skipper added.
After the BCCI and Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) agreement for the Day-Night Test, the latter is hopeful for another deal with the world’s richest cricket board. On March 18 and 21 in 2020, a couple of T20Is, featuring the Asia XI and World XI is scheduled to be played in Dhaka. The games will take place to celebrate the 100th birthday Bangabandhu, also the father of the Bengal nation.
As per a report, the BCB has requested the BCCI to allow seven of its top players to participate in the matches. The Bangladesh board wants MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Ravindra Jadeja to grace their presence on the auspicious occasion. BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury iterated the same in an interview.
