The two used to be key members of the Indian side which had started seeing into the eyes of its oppositions, irrespective of the ranks and venues. Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly and one of his bowling trump cards Zaheer Khan were both known for their aggressive stance on the field and together they have been witnesses to several memorable battles that India had won in the past.

Zaheer, who played 92 Tests, 200 ODIs and 17 T20Is between 2000 and 2014 taking over 600 international wickets, recently turned 40. His former captain Ganguly wished him on Twitter and therein, also poked a fun at the former.

The 46-year-old, who is now the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal, asked Zaheer to lose some weight, reminding him that he was “India’s strength”. He also posted a hand-shaking emoji, recalling the strong team bonding that he had shared with his team members.

Zaheer was in no mood not to reciprocate. In his reply, the former bowler said the time has come to team up with his ex-captain and hit the gym. He also said that he would call up Ganguly for tips. Zaheer, however, did not forget to wish the former southpaw for his wish.

Here is Zaheer’s reply

Ganguly, who captained India between 2000 and 2005, is credited for bringing a far-reaching transformation in Indian cricket. He was seen as the skipper who made India confident of winning matches abroad and that too against tough oppositions.

It was also during his captaincy days that India had seen a number of talented players making their names on the international stage. Zaheer Khan was one among them. The left-arm bowler had made his debut against Kenya in ICC Champions Trophy in Nairobi in 2000 and took 3 wickets for 48 runs in his very first match.
Yuvraj Singh had also made his international debut in that game. Ganguly is still seen poking fun at his former colleagues which shows that the old bonding is still intact.
