Sourav Ganguly-Rahul Dravid record broken by Nottinghamshire pair
The 2nd day of the Royal One Cup 2016 seen a high scoring thriller between Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire at Trent Bridge where both teams scored over 400 runs.
After electing to bat, Nottinghamshire were powered by a huge opening stand between Michael Lumb and Riki Wessels. They both shared a record 341 run stand for the opening wicket in just 236 balls. Wessels got out for 146 in just 97 balls with 14 fours and 8 sixes. Lumb scored a brilliant 184 off 150 balls with 21 fours and 6 sixes.
Their stand was the 3rd highest for any wicket in List A Cricket and highest in England beating Ganguly-Dravid’s 318 stand vs Sri Lanka at Taunton in 1999. Contributions came from Christian, Samit and Brendon as the home team posted 445/8 in 50 overs, the 2nd highest total in List A Cricket.
Josh Cobb and Adam Rossington put on 68 in just 6.5 overs during the chase for the first wicket. However, Northampton kept losing wickets regularly. Rossington departed for a brilliant 97 in just 69 balls with his side 5 down for 206 in 25.3 overs with 240 more runs needed to be scored.
Rory Kleinveldt played a master stroke innings smashing the bowlers all over the fence. He put on a 92 run stand in 50 balls with Crook and later 98-run stand with White in 65 balls. Kleinveldt scored 128 in just 63 balls with 10 fours and 9 sixes. He brought up his fifty in 22 balls and century in just 45 balls. But Rory and White got out in quick space.
Northampton lost their 9th wicket in the form of run out at the end of 47th over with 28 runs still to be scored. Richard Levi walked out at No.11 despite a wrist injury. He hit a huge six on the 2nd ball he faced but cleaned up in the penultimate over as Northamptonshire fell 20 runs short of the Notts’ total.

45 – Rory Kleinveldt’s 45-ball century was the fastest by a Northamptonshire player, 2nd fastest by a player coming to bat at No.7 or lower and the 3rd fastest by a South African in List A Cricket.
211 – Balls taken by MJ Lumb and MH Wessels pair to bring up 300. This is the fastest by an opening stand in List A overhauling Raval-How’s record in 2013 who took 212 balls to reach the 300 milestone.
341 – Opening stand between MJ Lumb and MH Wessels. This is the 3rd highest stand for any wicket in List A Cricket and the 2nd highest for the opening wicket.
425 – Northamptonshire’s 425 is the 3rd highest team total in List A Cricket while chasing. This is also only the 3rd 400+ total in which the team got all out.
445/8 – Nottinghamshire’s 445/8 is the 2nd highest team total in List A Cricket. Highest is 496/4 by Surrey vs Gloucestershire in 2007.

At Hove, the visiting team Essex defeated Sussex by 5 wickets. After been put into bat, Sussex had a century stand between Luke Wright and Ed Joyce. Both scored 50 and 73 respectively before getting out in quick space. Ross Taylor rebuilt Sussex’s innings with a 50 after a mild collapse while Chris Jordan finished off with a quick 36 as the hosts were bowled out on the very last ball for 271.
Essex were given a good start by their openers Nick Browne and Ton Westley who scored 44 and 32 respectively. Jesse Ryder played through as Essex banked on small but brisk partnerships. Ryder brought up his maiden century in England’s One Day Cup but departed soon after it. Ten Doeschate with an unbeaten 48 took Essex home with an over to spare.

Biggest win among the 3 games on Day 2 came at the Sophia Garden, Cardiff where the home side Glamorgan defeated the defending champions Gloucestershire by 52 runs. After put into bat, Glamorgan got important contributions from their top order. Captain Jacques Rudolph scored 53 while William Bragg top scored with 75. Graham Wagg scored a run a ball 49 despite the collapse on the other end as the hosts posted 289 as they got bowled out on penultimate delivery.
In the chase, Gloucestershire lost early wickets. Captain Michael Klinger tried to keep his side in the game with a 52 but the wickets kept falling after he got out. Benny Howell scored 77 in just 67 batting with tail only to take his side to 237 before they were bowled out with about 2 overs to spare.
