Following the losses in first two Test matches on the tour, the Indian team displayed tremendous valor in the remainder. After winning the last test, they recorded a remarkable 5-1 series win in the ODI format followed by a 2-1 win in the T20Is.

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly was awestruck with Virat Kohli’s sensational form. The Indian captain was at his splendid best throughout the three formats as he piled up a staggering 871 runs in total. Ganguly backed India to win in England and Australia under the captaincy of Kohli.

Kohli’s India has the potential to win Test series in England and Australia

India last visited England in 2014 after getting whitewashed 4-0 in the previous tour back in 2011. While they began well with a test victory at Lords, they failed to replicate the performances throughout the series and lost 3-1. Even in the Test series down under, India failed to win a single game as they lost 2-0.

However, this time around, Ganguly backed the current Indian crop as potential enough to secure a series win. He asserted that Kohli had scaled heights with his brilliant batting performances. He also praised the pace battery for their spectacular bowling.

“Kohli has taken batting to new heights. It makes us feel good for the upcoming visits to England and Australia. This team has the potential to win Test series in those two countries which is the ultimate achievement for any touring side. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah have only got better, and the latter has emerged as the future of fast bowling for India,” Ganguly wrote in his column for TOI.

Virat Kohli has been the standout not only with his batting but also his inspirational leadership

The Indian skipper who is currently ranked at No.2 and No.1 in Tests and ODIs respectively has been in another league. His consistency has left everyone stunned. Ganguly indicated that he also inspired confidence in the team with his captaincy. He further told that Kohli’s innings of 40 in Wanderers was a game changer for India in the tour.

“For India the standout for the entire tour was Virat Kohli; not only with his batting but also his inspirational leadership, especially at the Wanderers. Such performances actually make the team believe that they are better and stronger. He may have got a 40 on that pitch, but the guts and body language right throughout the Test changed the complexion for the remainder of the tour.”
