Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly is widely regarded as the renaissance man as far as Indian cricket is concerned. It is also clear that most of Ganguly’s success as skipper of the Indian team came from the fact that he had some of the best batsmen in the world. The fact that Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, and Virender Sehwag were a part of his side most certainly made his job a whole lot easier.
Speaking at a promotional event, Ganguly went on to reveal the some of the so-called ‘secrets’ about the former players. He began with his ODI opening partner Sachin Tendulkar, revealing the latter’s love for clothing and shopping.
“He (Tendulkar) would only bat and shop. He would get a Test hundred and the next day you would see him shopping in an Armani or Versace and you will see them hanging in his wardrobe. He was very fond of his clothes and had a great wardrobe,” said Ganguly, about his former Indian teammate Sachin Tendulkar.

VVS Laxman was perhaps India’s best overseas batsman has been described as the last person to board the team bus. “You would see him taking a shower even as the no 4 and 5 batters were at the crease. Even he would be the last to board the team bus,” Ganguly said.
Finally, the 45-year old went on to state that Virender Sehwag and Anil Kumble were some of the most positive people one could find in the dressing room. “Viru (Sehwag) at top with his batting and when you came to bowl you knew you’ve one (Kumble) who can bowl and give you wickets on any surface. He would say ‘You give me runs on the scoreboard and I will win you Tests.’ He did exactly that,” Ganguly said, reported Times of India.
“He changed the batting mindset of people around the world. If you see today’s era, if the players don’t get runs quickly there’s criticism. It all started with guys like Sehwag, (Matthew) Hayden.”
