Creation of fake pages with the name of celebrities or known personalities on social networking sites is nothing new. Former Indian captain and the current president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Sourav Ganguly’s wife Dona Ganguly experienced a similar incident as she lodged a police complaint about a fake Facebook page in her name on Wednesday, February 17.

The Facebook page named on the wife of Sourav Ganguly features a lot of photos of the couple and their daughter Sana. Also, it describes itself as the official handle of Dona Ganguly and boasts of having a massive following of 70,000 people.

Speaking about the complaint lodged by Dona, a police officer revealed that the department has been successful in tracking and identifying the IP (Internet Protocol) address of the fake account and will very soon carry out a detailed investigation on the matter.

“We are probing the matter and finding out who’s behind it. We will soon nab the culprit. The IP (internet protocol) address used to create the profile has been identified,” the police officer said as quoted by Indian Express.

Hopefully, police will help me close this fake account: Dona Ganguly

The 44-year-old Dona Ganguly is a notable Odissi dancer and teaches a remarkable form of dance to her students. Speaking about the whole fiasco, Dona asserted that one of her students made her aware of the fake Facebook page created on her name that has about 70,000 followers.

Dona further added that she has no problems with people sharing her photos along with her husband Sourav Ganguly but she doesn’t want the page to misguide or fool people using her name.

“Yes, a page using my name and Dada’s (Sourav) photos has been created on Facebook. I was informed by one of my students about this. We have lodged a complaint with the police.

“I should not have minded if they had used mine or Dada’s photos but at times people start posting remarks which others start thinking as ours, creating confusion which I don’t want to happen. Hopefully, police will help me close this fake account,” Dona added.
