South Africa all-rounder Solo Nqweni becomes third cricketer to test positive for Coronavirus
He is already battling the Guillan-Barré syndrome since last July.
South Africa all-rounder Solo Nqweni has been tested positive for the Coronavirus. He is the third cricketer to be infected with the virus after Pakistan’s Zafar Sarfraz and Scotland’s Majid Haq. But Nqweni is already suffering a lot with his other health issues over the last 12 months or so. He himself revealed the news of contracting from COVID-19 on his official Twitter handle.
Solo Nqweni is battling the Guillan-Barré syndrome since last July and was also in induced come for four weeks in 2019. Rather the doctors needed the machine to do the work his lungs after which his condition slowly improved and by October, was able to talk with people. He was soon cleared to travel back to South Africa as well but his family couldn’t bear the cost of transportation.
It was only due to GoFundMe campaign which raised £ 3125 before a single donor pledged £ 76,875 to pay the rest of the bill that Solo was able to return home. The cricketer reached Johannesburg in January and was admitted in a hospital for further treatment. Moreover, even South Africa national team players donated R50,000 in February for his medical expenses.

After going through all these tough times, Solo Nqweni has now been contracted with the Coronavirus. In his tweet, he also revealed that he has been battling with the GBS (aforementioned) and is only halfway through its recovery. The 26-year-old also got TB and his liver and kidney also failed during this period. He also expressed his frustration over all the happenings with him.
However, ESPNCricinfo reported that Solo’s agent Rob Humphries is confident that the cricketer will be able to fully recover from the virus and is currently able to communicate.
“So last year I got GBS, and have been battling this disease for the past 10 months and I’m only half way through my recovery. I got TB, my liver failed and my kidney failed. Now today I tested positive for corona virus. I don’t understand why all of this is happening to me,” Solo Nqweni’s tweet read.
Solo Nqweni played for South Africa U19 in 2012 and has been contracted to Eastern Province and Warriors franchise since then. He last played a competitive game in April 2019 against Northerns and scored 95 runs with the bat as well.
