South Africa can't write off Bangladesh: Shaun Pollock
South Africa will play Bangladesh in a 2-Test match series at home.
Former South African skipper Shaun Pollock has said that South Africa can’t write off Bangladesh, during the 2-Test match series starting from September 28. The Proteas had a terrible time in the field recently after they lost to England 3-1 in the Test series, 2-1 in the ODI series and the same margin in the shortest format of the game. On top of that, they had an unceremonious exit from the Champions Trophy.
Bangladesh on the other hand, reached the Champions Trophy semi-finals and beat Sri Lanka in a Test match and ended the series 1-1, something the Australians failed to achieve last year. Bangladesh recently beat Australia by 20 runs in the 1st Test match and it is no longer a surprise or an upset.
“You’ve always got to learn your lessons from your past series. We weren’t great, I think the guys will be a bit disappointed,” Pollock quoted Sport24 as saying. “They definitely have to learn, you can’t just write things off. It can’t be that way … you learn a lesson from everything in life whether it’s good or bad,” he added.
Rabada confident of a good show
Pacer Kagiso Rabada too feels that it will be challenging to defeat an improved Bangladesh side but they are capable of doing it. “They had some time now to regroup, it’s a fresh environment, new coach comes in and that will give a little spark to things,” he said. South Africa will be playing under Ottis Gibson, who replaced Russell Domingo as their head coach. Rabada also said that it is important to forget their disastrous outing in England.
“England was just a bit patchy. Every time we lost we had time to get back into the game, but we couldn’t,” said Rabada. So I guess it’s just facing those things, getting our record nice and straight and finding out where we went wrong and trying to convert at times,” he added.
