South Africa hopeful of Indian players taking part in Global T20 league

Cricket South Africa (CSA) CEO Haroon Lorgat is hopeful of BCCI allowing the Indian players to take part in CSA’s Global T20 league. The league is set to make its debut this November as CSA takes a step forward to stop the players from taking the ‘Kolpak’ way.

Lorgat was disappointed by the decision of BCCI to pull out of the Boxing Day Test which was originally expected to be a part of India’s tour of South Africa. But then he also said that CSA understands that India are having a jam-packed international schedule and hence BCCI were left with no other alternative.

“We are disappointed that India won’t be playing the Boxing Day Test because of their own tight schedule which is going into the far end of December by the time the Sri Lankan home series gets over. I believe BCCI too has its own challenges as far as scheduling is concerned,” Lorgat said.

Hope BCCI changes its stance: Lorgat

BCCI has not been allowing its players to play the other leagues as IPL is their own mega event. CSA’s CEO was also hopeful that the Indian board changes its stance in the near future. “We are happy that all top T20 players from different countries are going to take part in the tournaments. If the Indians walk into this league, it would be good for world cricket and of course for the league. There are 13 countries taking part in the league and I hope the Indians will some day be part of our T20 league,” Lorgat added.

Men in Blue are currently playing an ODI series in Sri Lanka as the long hectic home season awaits them. India is scheduled to play Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka at home from between September and December. They are slated to play 3 Tests, 11 ODIs and 9 T20Is during that period.
