South Africa to tour Sri Lanka for limited-overs series in September
Three ODIs and as many T20Is to take place in the tour.
South Africa cricket team is set to tour Sri Lanka for a white-ball series in September. The tour comprises three ODIs and as many T20Is which will be played between September 2 and September 14. All six games are scheduled to take place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. With the series taking place a month before the T20 World Cup, it would be a great preparation opportunity for both teams.
Given the current strength of both sides, South Africa are firm favourites to thrive in this series. The Proteas team defeated West Indies and Ireland in their last two T20I series and would like to continue their sensational run. However, Sri Lanka must also have gained a lot of confidence by defeating India 2-1 in the recently-concluded T20I series.
Speaking of the series, Cricket South Africa’s acting CEO Pholetsi Moseki said that his team has a great chance to assess the sub-continental conditions ahead of the global event.
Playing against quality opposition in the sub-continent is the best way for T20 World Cup preparation: CSA acting CEO
“We are delighted to have another tour confirmed for the Proteas men’s team with the ICC T20 World Cup just around the corner. Playing against quality opposition in the sub-continent is the best way for our team to prepare for this event and we are grateful to Sri Lanka Cricket for accommodating us during this time of the year where schedules are highly condensed,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Pholetsi Moseki as per saying.
“With an ICC white-ball world event in each year of the next three, game time is golden for every team and we are looking forward to watching our team play as they continue to add to the building blocks of their 2021 T20 World Cup preparation”, he added.
Meanwhile, the two teams locked horns earlier this year when Sri Lanka traveled to the Rainbow Nation for a two-match series. The visitors failed to put up a significant fight and suffered defeats in both games. This time, however, Sri Lanka will hold the home advantage and the Proteas side must gear up.
