The woes for team South Africa do not seem to end in the season. They were recently humiliated by a 1-5 defeat against the touring Indian side in the ODI series. Also, they are lagging 1-0 in the three-match T20I series at the moment. When the team meekly surrendered in the ODIs, many defended the poor show by citing the absence of the big players including skipper Faf du Plessis.
Well, from the developments in the camp, it seems that these woes will last a little longer now. As per the recent reports in the Sportstarlive, South African skipper is doubtful to take the field for the side in the first Test against touring Australian side. Australia are scheduled to play four Test matches during the tour that commences on March 1. The first Test will be played at the Kingsmead, Durban.
Reportedly, Faf du Plessis might not recover in time to be fit for the game. He had injured himself during the ODI series against India. Also, Dale Steyn has reportedly been ruled out of the first two Tests of the series. Steyn had made a comeback to international cricket after a long injury layoff.
He made his comeback in the first Test against India but ended up with a ligament tear in the very same game. He is set to miss the first two Tests against the Aussies. Furthermore, middle order batsman Temba Bavuma is also likely to return to the side before the second Test in Port Elizabeth. Bavuma is recovering from a broken finger and is likely to miss the Durban Test.
Updates on AB de Villiers, Quinton de Kock
In other developments, which come as a sigh of relief for the Proteas camp, AB de Villiers is likely to be fit for the game. He was injured recently during the final ODI against India. Also, wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock is expected to be fit for the Durban Test. De Kock was also injured during the ODI series against India recently.
