South Africa vs India, 2018: 5 biggest Indian victories in South Africa
Amidst the struggles in South Africa, India have managed some spectacular performances.
1. 1st Test, Johannesburg, 2006
The opening Test between India and South Africa at the Wanderers was a historic contest as it was India’s maiden Test victory in the African nation. India sprawled to 249 all out in the first innings. The pace battery of Makhaya Ntini, Shaun Pollock and Jacques Kallis ripped through the visitors.
India stormed back and shot out the hosts for a paltry 84 runs courtesy S Sreesanth’s masterful 5-wicket haul. The Indians, helped by VVS Laxman’s gutsy half-century and resistance from the lower order, compiled 236 runs in their second innings.
Subsequently, Graeme Smith’s men were set a daunting target of 402 runs. However, they folded for 278 runs and slumped to a 123-runs defeat. Ashwell Prince and Shaun Pollock tried their hearts out, but all in vain. Sreesanth, Zaheer Khan and Anil Kumble picked up three wickets each.
