South Africa vs India: Date, fixtures, time, venue details and schedule PDF download
The rainbow nation is the only country where India is yet to register a Test series win.
Team India’s next assignment will see them battling it out with South Africa in three Tests and as many ODIs. The action gets underway on December 26 with the Boxing Day Test at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. Notably, the rainbow nation is the only country where India is yet to register a Test series win. Hence, Virat Kohli’s men have the onus of defying the odds.
Notably, a full-fledged tour was in schedule initially but the four-match T20I series was postponed amid the rise of the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron, in African nations. The tour was also postponed by nine days. Nevertheless, the Test and ODI series are still in schedule and both sides would be raring to make a mark. Notably, this series holds great significance amid the ongoing captaincy saga in Indian cricket.
Eyes will be on Virat Kohli amid captaincy saga
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) dropped the bombshell by naming Rohit Sharma as the new ODI captain while announcing the Test squad for the tour. The veteran opener took over the reins from Virat Kohli and the same left cricket fans divided. Contradicting statements from Kohli and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly ignited the fire even further.
Hence, Kohli will be raring to make a mark in the series. Meanwhile, the visitors are touted favourites for this series as they have done exceptionally well in overseas Tests lately. While India recorded a 2-1 Test series win in Australia earlier this year, they were 2-1 up in the inconclusive series in England. Moreover, South Africa haven’t been at their best in recent times.
However, they still have some prominent players in the ranks and taking them lightly won’t be wise for the visiting team. Notably, India last toured South Africa in 2018 where the Proteas won the three –match Test series 2-1. The ODI and T20I series, however, went in India’s favour.
