Team India saw their 9-series winning streak come to a screeching halt with a defeat in the Centurion Test recently. Indian batting collapsed yet again and that handed the opposition, South Africa, a thumping 135 run win. More importantly, it sealed the Test series for the hosts. Indian skipper Virat Kohli was certainly a very dejected man after the game.
When analyzed on the performance scale, Kohli arguably was the only batsman from team India to have played well in the match. He had hammered a magnificent 153 in the first innings of the Test. The disappointment for the Indian captain was quite evident from the way he reacted in the press conference after the game.
By the look of things, it seemed that Virat vented out all his anger on one of the journalists present at the presser. Kohli was continuously bombarded with questions about his team selections. Many questioned him about the ‘best XI’ that he could have fielded in the match. Miffed with the flurry of questions on this hypothetical ‘best XI’, Kohli blasted the journalists asking them to pick the so called best XI.
A journalist pointed out that the Centurion Test was arguably the best bet for team India to win on the tour. He made these claims citing the sub-continent like conditions at the venue for the match. He suggested Kohli that the result could have been in India’s favor had the team fielded their best XI.
An annoyed Kohli snapped back asking, “What is the best 11?” Things did not end right there. The journalist pointed out on how Kohli kept changing the team combination ever since taking over the captaincy.
A proud Virat went on to question back quoting “How many Test matches have we won out of 34? How many have we won? How many have we won? 21 wins (20 actually). Two losses. How many draws? Does it matter? Wherever we play we try to do our best. I’m here to answer your questions, not to fight with you.”
Well, the fans were least impressed with the way Virat answered the questions. Many felt that he was way too ‘arrogant’ and vented out his anger on the journalists. Some even remarked that he should have taken a tip or two from MS Dhoni on how to stay calm in such situations.
Here is how the fans reacted to Virat Kohli’s press conference:
Mr Kohli, you are representing India and you are obliged to answer any questions on this matter. Stop acting like a teenager…

At least take some patience from MSD before putting yourself in his shoes

Too much to expect from Virat Kohli.

When you commit a mistake then politely accept it. Such reply implies arrogance of a fool. Player par excellence but a captain below par. Should have played Rahane and Bhuvi in both the tests. #IndvSA

Correct. When you admit mistakes, you learn from it. There are far bigger legends of the game, who are so humble off the field

What sort of reply is this, you are captain of INDIAN cricket team and you could have replied wisely @imVkohli #SAvIND though we are with you, but at least try to introspect what went wrong. Stop media interaction. We have seen post match summary already. Focus on 3rd test.

Reply as expected, logic less & full of arrogant attitude, everybody choses team after prior performance, you don't do, is error & lack of judging skills on ur part, if you can't select tell me I will do it. A team which will definitely put up a fight & won't surrender like urs

Such a knee jerk reaction. Why shouldn't people question his decisions? After they cheer every aspect of his life when he is doing well. Maturity is how one handles himself during failure…

Even Dhoni faced all these things but he never loses cool. You are giving wrong message to the world.. It's not aggression its arrogance or childish nature.
