Team India has certainly done a commendable job in the ongoing Centurion Test. In the first couple of sessions on day 1, it seemed that the match would be all about the Proteas camp. But some good fightback by the Indian bowlers, combined with a Virat Kohli masterclass in the batting department, has the situation well poised for both the sides in the game.
Well, during the course of the game, the Indian captain has managed to stay in the headlines for various reasons. Earlier, he was in the news for his stellar knock. Soon, the comments he made on the field had the social media set ablaze with funny memes. Virat Kohli had remarked that playing till the evening will tire out the opposition (in Hindi, that sounded a little too absurd).
Also, he was penalized for his actions in the Test. He was slapped a fine of 25 per cent of his match fees for having an argument with the umpire and his subsequent action of throwing the ball hard. Amidst all this, one needs to appreciate how well Virat Kohli has managed to keep the spirits going for his lads in the match.
His thorough pep talk to the fellow batsmen whilst batting, and his shrewd remarks against the opposition are making top headlines. Here are some of the best Virat Kohli sledging moments from the Centurion Test:
1. Takes a jibe at the opposition skipper
During the South Africa first innings, the Proteas were jolted bitterly by two run-outs. Interestingly, Faf du Plessis was involved in both of them. Taking a jibe at Faf, Virat sledged, “two errors skipper”. It was caught well and loud on the stump mic.
2. Dean Elgar faces the heat
Earlier, South African opener had called Rohit Sharma a cheat for claiming a catch of Hashim Amla in the game. Taking an angered dig at it, Virat kept sledging, “You call people a cheat, you called Rohit a cheat”, when Elgar batted in the first innings.
3. Elgar faces the heat again
During the second innings, Elgar’s struggle against the moving balls bowled by Ravichandran Ashwin looked real. Virat Kohli, placed himself near the batsman, and kept chirping against Elgar. “Look at him”, “You will get him stumped”, “Senior batsman”, were some of the common words caught on the mic.
4. Play till the evening and tire them out
As mentioned earlier, this sounds pretty normal and logical in English. But when Kohli said these words in Hindi, “Agar Shaam tak khelenge to inki Ga*#d fatt jaegi”, things looked pretty hilarious.
5. Keshav Maharaj gets a beating
When Keshav Maharaj arrived at the crease in the first innings, the pressure was on the South African team. Kohli was quick to tell Maharaj that he will be out of action after just one mistake. Kohli chirped, ” Come on Keshav, one mistake and you are out of here.”
