India will be fancying their chances in this long 6-match series which could decide the fate of these teams in the ICC rankings as both the sides situated at the top. The Saffers are currently leading India by only one point but the winner of this series moves on to the top.
Here are all the stats and numbers to be looked out ahead of the South Africa-India ODI series:
0 – Number of ODI matches India won at the Port Elizabeth’s St. George Park out of the five they played. It is the only venue where India played five and more ODIs without winning even one.
India played seven ODI matches at Durban’s Kingsmead against South Africa without winning one. It is the only venue where India failed to defeat the home side even after playing five ODIs. India lost six out of the seven ODIs they played against the home side at this venue with another game getting washed out.
1 – South Africa is the only country where Virat Kohli is yet to score a hundred in the ODI format. He scored at least one century in the eight other countries he featured in at least one match. South Africa is also one of two Test nations against which Kohli scored only one century in the ODI format. His batting average of 44.43 is as well the lowest for him against any opposition.
5 – Number of ODI matches India won against South Africa in South Africa. These are the fewest they won against the home team in a country where they played more than five matches. India featured in 28 ODIs in South Africa against the host and lost 21 of them.
12.29 – Rohit Sharma’s batting average in the ODI format in South Africa. This is his lowest ODI average in any country where he batted more than one innings. Rohit’s batting average of 27.88 against South Africa in this format is also the lowest for him against whom he batted more than one innings.
31.60 – MS Dhoni’s batting average against South Africa in the ODI format is his worst average against any team. Dhoni aggregated 727 runs in the 27 innings so far with four fifties.
72 – Quinton de Kock’s batting average against India is the best average for any player in the India-South Africa ODIs. De Kock scored 720 runs in the ten ODI innings with five centuries and one fifty.
2005 – AB de Villiers will be unavailable out for the first three ODIs of the series. This will be the first time since December 2005 when South Africa will face India in ODI format without AB de Villiers. Saffers played the last two ODIs of the 2005 series in India without ABD. Since December 2005, South Africa faced India in 52 out of 53 Internationals with De Villiers in the XI except for the one-off Johannesburg T20I in 2012.
