The high flying team India had an abrupt halt in Centurion recently. Having won the first T20I convincingly, they were expected to seal the fate of the series in the second game in Centurion. However, they ended up being beaten by the hosts by 6 wickets. Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has defended the Indian team after the defeat. Ganguly, who has been very supportive of the Indian team throughout the series, noted that the track at SuperSport Park did not behave the way it was expected to behave.

He noted that there was hardly anything for the spinners and hence, the hosts did have an upper hand in the game. As per the quotes in India Today, Sourav Ganguly noted that the score of 188 was a decent effort from the visitors. However, on a track that had hardly anything for the spinners, it became tougher for the Indian bowlers to contain the run flow since they had a front line spinner expected to bowl his full quota of overs.

“The wicket did not spin and turn like it did during the Test match and One-dayers and I thought the conditions did help South Africa. I was not surprised because there was a lot of rain around. 188/4 was a big score no doubt but with all that water on the ground and that drizzle, it wasn’t easy to defend,” Sourav Ganguly quoted.

On South Africa’s batting

Speaking further on the same note, Sourav Ganguly did give the due share of credit to the South African batsmen for their efforts. However, he reiterated that with the wet ball, it was tougher for the Indian bowlers to bowl under the lights.

“SuperSport Park is not a big ground in South Africa and South Africa batted brilliantly. You could see the wet ball, you could see Chahal struggle with the wet ball, the seam getting wet and the South Africans capitalized,” Ganguly remarked further.

On the series decider

With 1-1 being the scoreline, the final match of India’s long tour of South Africa is fittingly going to be the decider. The match in Cape Town promises to be a big affair. Commenting on the series decider, Ganguly backed the Indian team to win it 2-1. Furthermore, he also backed the Indian spinners to come good in the final match of the tour.
