After losing the first two Test matches and the series, India bounced back strongly to outclass the home team in the matches that followed. Starting from the final Test in Johannesburg, India won six out of seven matches and registered their maiden ODI series win in South Africa. The Indian team will now be taking on the JP Duminy led South Africa in a 3-match T20I series. Unlike in the Tests and ODIs, India have a strong record in and against South Africa. India’s win in the inaugural 2007 WT20 edition was hosted by the African nation only.
All the stats and numbers to be looked out ahead of the South Africa-India T20I series:
1.500 – India’s win-loss ratio against South Africa in T20Is. India defeated the Saffers in six games and lost four. Only Australia (1.833) has a better win-loss ratio against South Africa than India in this format.
3.000 – India’s win-loss ratio in the T20I format in South Africa is the 4th best for any team in a country. (More than 10 matches played) India won six out of the ten T20Is they played and lost in two matches. One of the remaining two ended in a Tie and the other without a result. India has a win-loss ratio of 10 in the T20Is in Bangladesh which is the best for any team in a specific country.
4 – Number of times India faced South Africa in the T20I format in South Africa. They defeated the home team in the first three encounters in 2006, 2007 and 2011 but lost in a rain-affected match in 2012.
5 – Number of T20Is India played at the Kingsmead in Durban without losing a game. This venue won’t be hosting any game in this 3-match series. India won three T20I matches at this venue while remaining two ending without a result and in a Tie respectively. Only Pakistan (6 at Harare) and Windies (5 at Basseterre) featured in as many as five T20Is without losing.
51.2 – Batting average of Rohit Sharma in the T20Is against South Africa. This is the 2nd best T20I batting average for any player against South Africa. Rohit scored 309 runs in seven T20I innings against SA with a hundred and two fifties.
141 – Rohit Sharma’s batting average in the T20I format in South Africa. This is the best batting average for any player in T20Is in South Africa and also the best for an Indian in any country. (Min: 100 runs)
143.33 – Suresh Raina’s strike-rate with the bat in the Twenty20 format since the start of 2017. In the 26 innings he batted in this period, he scored 860 runs at an average of 39.09 with six fifties and an unbeaten 126.
1957 – Runs Virat Kohli scored in the T20I format so far. He needs 43 more runs to become the third player to complete 2000 T20I runs.
