South Africa vs Pakistan: David Miller named stand-in captain for remaining T20Is
Miller was the Player of the Match in Cape Town.
After doing well in the Test and ODI series, South Africa started the three-match T20I series against Pakistan on a grand note. They won the first match at the Newlands in Cape Town by six runs and took a 1-0 lead in the series. The hosts found themselves in trouble during various stages of the encounter but held their nerve in the crunch moments of the match to emerge victorious.
The second match is scheduled to be tomorrow at the iconic New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg and the home team would want to wrap the series up with one match left. In the meantime, Faf du Plessis, who captained the national team in the first game has been rested for the rest of the series. David Miller has been named as the stand-in captain as per reports in Cricbuzz.
Miller was outstanding in the erstwhile contest and was adjudged the Player of the Match for his stupendous display of fielding in the outfield. He took as many as four catches and also inflicted a couple of run outs to send Babar Azam and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan packing. Azam’s wicket was crucial for the reason that he was batting on 38 runs with three boundaries and a six.
Du Plessis- A big miss
This will be the first instance the 29-year-old Pietermaritzburg-born cricketer would be captaining the team and would love to lead his side to a series victory in the very first instance. Moreover, he would also be looking to score big with the bat after failing in Cape Town.
On the other hand, Du Plessis’ exclusion is expected to weaken the batting as he scored 78 runs from 45 deliveries. The experienced campaigner came to bat at number three after Imad Wasim got rid of Gihahn Cloete. Thereafter, he stitched together a stand of 131 in 73 balls with opener Reeza Hendricks.
