Recently, the former Australian cricketer Kerry O ‘Keeffe was severely criticized for making a joke of the Indian players’ names while commentating. He wasn’t able to pronounce the names Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja and in the process, joked about the same only to be at the receiving end of a lot of former Indian cricketers. This time around, another commentator, Mark Nicholas, has come under the scanner for calling the dwarfs as the kids.
He was one of the commentators on the panel for the third and final Test between South Africa and Pakistan in Johannesburg which the hosts won comfortably. Nicholas committed such a blunder during the second day’s play when South Africa were batting in the first innings. During the break in play, a pair of dwarfs were shown playing the game on the grass banks.
When the cameraman zoomed in, Mark Nicholas got excited and commentated on the action by considering the pair as the kids.
I like that
“Okay well, it’s important to start young. Look at this … spin it. Oh, I like that!” Mark Nicholas said even as one of the dwarfs bowled a decent delivery with his left-arm spin bowling. He was unaware of the fact that they were the dwarfs even after the cameras were zoomed in on them which left Nicholas’ fellow commentator Kevin Pietersen in splits.
While this was a small mistake by the English commentator, Twitter didn’t miss out to point out at a blunder committed. The video of the same is going viral at the moment on social media as well.
