Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 154 in response to South Africa’s 222/10 but bounced back with the ball in the 2nd essay. South Africa were bundled out for only 128 in the 2nd innings losing their last seven wickets for just 38 runs. 1 – Sri Lanka became the first team from Asia to win two matches in a Test series in South Africa. They are also the first Asian team to win two matches in a Test series in South Africa.
3 – Only the 3rd time Sri Lanka won more than one Test match in a series while batting second. They defeated Zimbabwe in 2004 and Bangladesh in 2006 away from home.
3 – Sri Lanka is only the 3rd team to win a Test series against South Africa in South Africa. England won 11 Test series while Australia won ten series against the Proteas in South Africa.
A win without a big score for Sri Lanka:
1951 – The last instance of South Africa losing a Test match without conceding 200+ in both the innings was against England at The Oval in 1951. England made 194 in their first innings of the 1951 Test and 164/6 in the second innings.
2 – Only the 3rd time in the last 17 years an away team won a Test match without posting 200+ in either inning. Sri Lanka defeated Windies in Bridgetown last year and lost to visiting Pakistan team in 2006 at Kandy.
A recent low for South Africa:
128 – The total of 128 by South Africa is their lowest at home in Test cricket against Sri Lanka. Their previous lowest was 168 during the 2011 Durban Test which was the only other instance of Proteas getting bowled out under 200 at home against Lanka.
128 – South Africa’s total of 128 is also their 2nd lowest Test total at home since the start of 2012. They were bowled out for just 83 in the 2016 Johannesburg Test against England.
A new low for Amla:
1 – Hashim Amla’s duck in the first innings of this Test was his first ever golden duck in Test cricket. It was his 13th duck in the longer format.
