South Africa clinched yet another ODI series against Sri Lanka following a convincing 71-run win by the Duckworth Lewis Stern (DLS) method in the 3rd ODI at the Kingsmead in Durban. Quinton de Kock brought an end to his century drought by scoring a 108-ball 121. The Proteas looked all set to amass a 350 plus total before the Sri Lankan bowlers pulled it back in the middle overs.
The last ten overs fetched nearly 100 runs as the hosts finished with 331/6 in their 50 overs. Sri Lanka were 75/2 after 16 overs in the chase when the rain interrupted and they were set with a revised target of 193 from 24 overs. The visitors were asked to score 118 further runs from only eight overs after the resumption but could score 46 as the conditions became tough for the batsmen.
Here are all the major stats and numbers recorded during the 3rd ODI at the Kingsmead:
De Kock’s rich form:
2 – Quinton de Kock is only the 2nd South African to score 80 or more runs in four consecutive ODI innings. His last four ODI innings read 121, 94, 81 and 83. Herschelle Gibbs had scores of 116, 116*, 153 and 97* respectively in 2002.
7 – De Kock has scored a fifty in seven of his previous eight innings in international cricket. Six of those seven fifties have been scores of 80 or more. De Kock scored at least one fifty in each of his previous six international matches.
End of a century drought for de Kock:
104 – Innings De Kock needed for scoring his 14th century in ODI cricket; the 4th fewest by any player. Hashim Amla scored his 14th ODI ton in his 84th innings while David Warner and Virat Kohli got there in 98 and 103 innings respectively.
With this ton, he brought an end to his 17 consecutive ODI innings streak without a century; the longest hundred-less streak for him in this format.
A happy hunting opposition:
1000 – Both Quinton de Kock (1047) and Faf du Plessis (1003) completed 1000 ODI runs against Sri Lanka in this game. De Kock needed 21 innings for this milestone while Du Plessis required 23 innings. Jacques Kallis (1434) and Hashim Amla (1063) are the other South African players with 1000+ ODI runs against Sri Lanka.
Udana returns:
2012 – This was only the 3rd ODI for Isuru Udana with his first two appearances coming in July 2012. Udana spent 6 years and 225 days between his 2nd and 3rd ODI of his career. He missed 163 consecutive matches played by Sri Lanka in ODI cricket; the 4th most consecutive matches missed between two appearances for Sri Lanka.
