Match 25 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 will see South Africa taking on Sri Lanka. The encounter takes place at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday (October 30). Both teams have made a pretty similar start to the tournament, winning one of their first two games. Hence, it would be interesting to see how the upcoming contest pans out. Having defeated defending champions West Indies in their last fixture, the Proteas side would be high on confidence. On the other hand, the Lankan Lions have some issues to address after a seven-wicket defeat against Australia.

Head to Head record:

South Africa dominate Sri Lanka in terms of overall head-to-head record in T20Is. These two teams have played 16 T20I matches so far. Out of which 11 have been won by the Proteas side and the Lankan Lions emerged victorious in the other five matches. As far as T20 World Cups are concerned, these two teams have met thrice and the head-to-head record stands 2-1 in South Africa’s favour.

Top performers:

Dashing South African opener Reeza Hendricks has played some brilliant knocks against Sri Lanka in the shortest international format. He has scored the most runs (311) in the clashes. Among active cricketers, the swashbuckler is followed by Quinton de Kock (262) and David Miller (260). Among the bowlers, Imran Tahir has picked up the most wickets (14). He is followed by Tabraiz Shamsi (8) and Lakshan Sandakan (8).

Last T20 World Cup meeting:

As mentioned above, these two sides have met thrice in T20 World Cups. The last of those meetings was recorded in the 2016 edition. It was a pretty much one-sided affair as Sri Lanka never really looked in the hunt. The Proteas side bundled Sri Lanka out for 120 after electing to bowl in Delhi. Tillakaratne Dilshan (35) top-scored for the Lankan team.

South Africa’s chase couldn’t have gone smoother veteran Hashim Amla and skipper Faf du Plessis added 60 runs for the second wicket. The former even recorded a brilliant half-century. The cherry on the added by AB de Villiers’ late impetus as South Africa crossed the line in 17.4 overs, winning the contest by eight wickets.
