After the ongoing two-match Test series, Sri Lanka and South Africa will be locking horns in the five-match ODI series. The visitors are currently on a high after a sensational one-wicket win in the first Test at the Kingsmead in Durban. The Proteas, on the other hand, are on the cusp of losing their first Test series since the 2015-16 season. Their woes in the limited-overs format are coming to no end as the experienced JP Duminy is in doubt for the ODI series.

The left-handed batsman hasn’t played competitive cricket since October 2018 and was expected to feature in the ongoing domestic One-Day Cup for the Cape Cobras. Duminy is still not recovered entirely from the shoulder injury and a word in the Cobras camp is that the cricketer is not match-ready.

“Duminy’s throwing is not strong enough as a result of his shoulder injury and he won’t be considered for selection for the match against the Knights,” Shane physiotherapist of the Cape Cobras was quoted as saying by the Cobras’ official website.

Duminy’s batting is looking strong

The ODI series against Sri Lanka is South Africa’s last assignment before the World Cup and they would love to have a look at JP Duminy at some stage during the five matches. Meanwhile, Cobras coach Ashwell Prince was of the opinion that Duminy’s batting is looking good but he wants to get better at fielding and bowling still and then make a comeback.

“Duminy’s batting is looking as strong as ever but he feels uncertain about his bowling and his fielding. He prides himself in his throwing arm and his ability to throw himself around in the field. He wants to make sure he can field as good as ever, and bowl,” Prince said.

The five-match ODI series between South Africa and Sri-Lanka will commence on March 3 at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg before which the Islanders will play a warm-up game on February 28.
