South Africa vs Zimbabwe 2018: 3rd ODI – Statistical Highlights
All the major stats and numbers that were recorded during the final ODI of the series.
South Africa completed a whitewash over Zimbabwe in the three-match ODI series at home but none of the three victories were comprehensive ones. In the final ODI at Paarl, Zimbabwe produced their best batting effort of the series posting 228 before they were bowled out in the final over. Sean Williams’ 69 played a crucial role in taking their total past 200. The home team were cruising at 114/1 after 19 overs but the visitors made them toil till the 46th over for the victory.
All the major stats and numbers that were recorded during the final ODI of the series:
0 – Number of individual centuries recorded in this ODI series. This is only the 2nd ODI series/tournament in South Africa in the last ten years to not witness a hundred. (Min: 2 matches) The three-match series between South Africa and Australia in 2011/12 had a highest individual score of 76.
1 – Imran Tahir is only the second South African spinner to open the bowling in an ODI game at home. He bowled the second over of the game after Dale Steyn bowled the first over.
Aaron Phangiso was the first SA spinner to open the bowling in a home ODI which he did in the 2015 Potchefstroom ODI against New Zealand. These are the only two instances of South African spinners opening the bowling in an ODI in the last four years in any country.
4 – Heinrich Klaasen is only the 4th South African keeper to affect four dismissals and score a fifty in the same ODI game. Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers (3) and Quinton de Kock were the other three.
The last of the previous five instances came in the 2015 Durban ODI against the Windies where De Villiers scored 81 and made five dismissals behind the stumps.
31 – South Africa now have won each of their last 31 ODI matches against Zimbabwe. This is the longest winning streak for any team against an opponent in the ODI format. The previous longest streak was of 28 matches for Australia against Zimbabwe between 1983 and 2014.
72 – Runs Tabraiz Shamsi conceded in his ten overs in this game. These are the most number of runs conceded in an ODI for South Africa against Zimbabwe. Dale Steyn conceded 65 runs during the 2007 Harare ODI but also took three wickets.
6001 – Brendan Taylor has completed 6000 runs in ODI cricket. He is the 3rd player to score over 6000 ODI runs for Zimbabwe after Andy Flower (6786) and Grant Flower (6571).
