South Africa vs Zimbabwe 2018: T20I series – Statistical Preview

South Africa and Zimbabwe will be facing off in a bilateral T20I series for only the second time and the first time since 2010. The three-match ODI series between the two sides did not turn out to be as one-sided as expected. The Zimbabwe bowlers did well on the suitable tracks against the inexperienced batting of the home team. This series is a crucial one for both the teams as they have struggled for success over the last couple of years in the T20I format.

All the key stats and numbers ahead of the three-match T20I series between South Africa and Zimbabwe:

3 – The two teams faced off in the T20I format on three occasions; twice in a T20I series in 2010 and once in the 2012 World T20. The Saffers were victorious in all the three matches. The 2010 series was the last instance when Zimbabwe played a T20I in South Africa.


4 – South Africa have lost all their last four three-match T20I series. Out of those four series, three of them were played at home.


6-7 – South Africa’s win-loss record in the T20I format since the start of 2017. Their record in this span dips further while chasing as they won only one out of four.


8 – Zimbabwe lost each of their previous eight T20I matches. Their last win in this format was against India in the 2016 Harare T20I which they won by two runs.


50 – Imran Tahir has claimed 50 wickets in the Twenty20 format in 2018 across the 36 matches he played thus far. Tahir took those wickets at an average of 18.28 and conceded runs at an economy rate of 6.83.


67.67David Miller’s batting average in the recently concluded CPL T20. The South African scored 203 runs across seven innings in the tournament at an average of 175. The seven T20 innings before this tournament, Miller scored 128 runs at 18.29 with a strike rate of only 112.28.


97 – Robbie Frylinck has taken 97 wickets in his Twenty20 career. He has featured in 98 matches in the T20 format thus far.


2927 – Brendon Taylor needs 73 more runs to complete 3000 T20 runs. Hamilton Masakadza (3789) and Sean Ervine (3082) are the only Zimbabwe players to score over 3000 T20 runs.


3929 – Runs Quinton de Kock has scored in his Twenty20 career thus far. He needs 71 more runs to accomplish 4000 runs in the format.


5967 – JP Duminy has scored 5967 runs in his 245-match Twenty20 career thus far. He needs 33 more runs to become the 2nd South African after AB de Villiers (6649) to score 6000 T20 runs.
