South African bookmakers predict the highest run-getter in World Cup 2019
The World Cup is expected to be full of fire as pitches in England are as flat as they get.
The upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, which is only a little more than a week away, is expected to breach the 500 run barrier for the first time in ODI cricket. And it is huge if we consider the number of 350-plus or 400+ scores in cricket in the over a decade, but never did any team cross the much-anticipated yet feared 500 mark. The excitement is all about cricket reaching an all-new landmark, something that has been foreseen for many many years but has never been converted to reality.
On the other hand, it can be extremely fatal to the balance in cricket, a talk that has been going since we stepped into the modern era of cricket. The much criticized and questioned the balance between the bat and ball. But if this World Cup is the one that will rock the cricketing world then expect huge individual performances too.
And many have already picked favourites to make the most number of runs in this World Cup edition. India skipper Virat Kohli is an obvious first choice to be amongst the ‘favourites’ to clinch the top spot in the run-scoring charts in the tournament. He lands in England with 4306 runs at a remarkable average of 78.29 which includes 19 centuries in ODIs the most since the conclusion of the previous World Cup.

Some others among the top choices are David Warner whose latest exploit was winning the Orange Cap in the 2019 season of the Indian Premier League. The Aussie spearhead batsman is all hungry from his comeback after a one-year international ban. Martin Guptill who was the highest run-scorer in World Cup 2015, seems out of touch this year and won’t be in the competition.
Kumar Sangakkara the real batting sensation of the previous World Cup is a retired cricketer. England’s batting is all powerful with batsmen like Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root and Eoin Morgan.
But according to local bookmakers of South Africa, Kohli is the one who will emerge as the best of the best and is being backed at 6/1 to finish at the top of the list of highest run-getters in the upcoming showpiece event. Meanwhile, Australia’s left-handed opener David Warner and England’s Jonny Bairstow are joint second-favourites at 10/1, followed by England’s Joe Root at 12/1.
