South Australia players cleared of pub breach, police apologised, informs coach Jason Gillespie

The South Australia team coach Jason Gillespie has said that the players have received apologies from the police and have been cleared of any wrongdoing. Earlier it was reported that the few Redbacks players were asked to leave from an Adelaide nightclub amidst reports of bad behavior. However, there were no official complains and arrests done but the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) had asserted that it was looking into the matter.

The South Australian police had confirmed that ten men were given the order to leave the Cry Baby nightclub post the Redback’s match against Queensland.  It was also reported that a few players were verbally abusive and had breached the Covid-19 protocols. However, the team’s coach has now come forward to give an update on the same.

Jason Gillespie took a slight dig at the media. He asserted that they were quick enough in criticizing the players without being aware of the actual facts. He added that he understands the role of media and looks forward to hearing from them after the players are now cleared of the wrongdoing.

“There’s nothing to report. The police actually apologized, it was a non-event. All our players are completely exonerated from anything. A lot of people in the media were very quick to criticize our players without actually knowing any facts, so that was quite disappointing.

“So I’m really pleased that nothing has happened. We believe and trust our players, and they’ve been 100 percent completely exonerated. I’m really comfortable with that. I understand the role of the media, but I’m looking forward to hearing from those journalists that went pretty hard at our players,” Redbacks coach Jason Gillespie said as quoted by The West Australian.

“SACA has been made aware of an allegation that several Redback players were asked to leave a city venue following concerns about their behavior. As an organization SACA is committed to maintaining the highest standards of behavior both on and off the field and expects all its personnel to adhere to current Covid-19 restrictions in the interest of community safety,” the organization had said in a previously issued statement.
