Spin coach Rangana Herath set to miss Bangladesh tour of West Indies

Bangladesh spin bowling coach and veteran Rangana Herath will not travel with the team for the upcoming tour of the Caribbean. The 44-year-old will not be traveling with the Bangladeshi side as he has applied for leave to be with his family. It may be noted that the Bangladesh Cricket team will leave for West Indies on June 6. As per the schedule, the visitors will take on the West Indies side in two Tests, three ODIs, and an equal number of 20-over games.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) team director Khaled Mahmud has also confirmed that the senior left-arm spinner will not be a part of the touring squad and the board is finding alternatives to pick someone to replace Herath for the tour.

It must be noted that the veteran left-arm spinner decided to stay with the Bangladesh camp during the home series against Sri Lanka, despite the current economic crisis in his country. However, Herath has now decided to take leave. “Herath will not be available in the West Indies tour as he will be with his family,” team director Mahmud confirmed to Cricbuzz.
It must be noted that the 44-year-old took the role of coaching during the tour of Zimbabwe and then his contract was extended by the BCB till the upcoming 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup, to be played in Australia
The tour will start from the longest format of the game with the first Test to be played in Antigua on June 16. The second Test match is slated to start on June 24 in St Lucia. After the Test series, the Men in Maroon will take on Bangladesh in three T20Is starting from July 2 with the final T20I to be played in Guyana on July 7. The tour will end after the three-match ODI series which will start on July 10.
