Spinner Krunal Pandya surprises everyone with a vicious bouncer
Brathwaite ducked and the ball went above his head.
Baroda cricketer Krunal Pandya has had an impressive outing in the ongoing T20I series between India and Windies. After his all-round show with both bat and ball in the first match at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, he was able to put a lid on the run-scoring even in the second match in Lucknow where he conceded only 23 runs, albeit he wasn’t able to pick up a wicket.
He is accurate as a bowler and hardly gives room to the batsmen to work with. However, yesterday, he tried to churn out something different, which took everyone on the pitch by surprise. The incident took place in the fourth ball over the 13th over when the visiting team was already in a precarious position, having lost half their side with more than 120 runs to win the match.
Krunal bowls a half-tracker
Skipper Carlos Brathwaite was on strike and the left-arm spinner dug the ball short at sheer pace, bowling from around the wicket. The delivery had so much venom that even a fast bowler would’ve been shocked. Dinesh Karthik was standing up to the stumps and he tried to collect the ball by outstretching his hands, but couldn’t even get a fingertip to the ball.
Brathwaite ducked and the ball went above his head to race away to the boundary for four byes. In the meantime, Karthik, the wicketkeeper, fell on the ground and gave a surprised look at Krunal. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah from the boundary raised his arms and tried to comprehend what had just happened. Those were welcome runs for the Caribbean team, who huffed and puffed.
Brathwaite, eventually, went on to score 15 runs from 19 deliveries with the help of one six. The extra runs didn’t cost India at all and the Men in Blue comprehensively thrashed their opponents by 71 runs to win the encounter and the series as well. The third and final match is scheduled to be played on Sunday, November 11 at M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
