Former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis seems to be one among the many in the cricketing fraternity who were taken aback by India’s approach against England. A win for India would have kept Pakistan in the pole position to seal a spot in the semifinals. However, with India losing the game, Pakistan don’t have their destiny in their own hands. If the hosts manage to win their final league game too, Pakistan will be knocked out of the competition even if they win against Bangladesh.

Chasing 338 in the World Cup was always going to be a herculean task. However, India were well in the game courtesy a fine century from Rohit Sharma and a fifty from Virat Kohli. When Hardik Pandya’s 45-run knock ended, India needed 71 from the last five overs. The equation was definitely tough but not impossible if the recent trends are anything to go by. But in the end, they fell short by 31 runs.

MS Dhoni once again failed to close the game for India as his reputation of a ‘finisher’ took a further beating. He and Kedar Jadhav managed just 39 runs from the final five overs. What was more surprising that the two never really went for the kill and looked more than happy to rotate the strike. Since the completion of the game, the duo, especially MS Dhoni, has faced widespread criticism not only from fans but also former cricketers.

Waqar Younis blasts India

Waqar Younis also could not help but take a dig at India after the game. The legendary bowler did not mention the name of any player but it became clear who was he referring too. Accusing the Indian player of not showing any sportsmanship, Waqar tweeted, ” It’s not who you are.. What you do in life defines who you are.. Me not bothered if Pakistan gets to the semis or not but one thing is for sure.. Sportsmanship of few Champions got tested and they failed badly.”

India, meanwhile, will be looking to get back to winning ways when they lock horns against Bangladesh on Tuesday and seal their semi-final spot.
