Life was going smoothly for the Kerala born Indian pacer Shanthakumaran Sreesanth. He had donned the Indian jersey many times and was plying his trade for the Rajasthan Royals franchise in the Indian Premier League. But an era of darkness awaited as it was found out that Sreesanth, along with two of his Rajasthan Royals teammates, were involved in corrupt practices which do not go hand-in-hand with the cardinal laws of the gentleman’s game.
Hence, what followed was the snapping of Sreesanth’s promising career. He was banned from playing all formats of the game which he has defamed globally. However, a few days back India witnessed the similar kind of judgement Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir received, who was also involved in corrupt practices once. The Kerala High Court removed the ban from Sreesanth and provided him with the last ray of opportunity.
Aims to do an Amir
Kerala’s very own ‘Gopu’ is 34-years old now and aims to do an Amir, who is Pakistan’s pace spearhead at the moment. The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) is trying to help the owner of over 150 international wickets by letting him practice in the pre-seasons camps and compete in selection trials.
“With the domestic season around the corner, KCA would also like to support him and provide an opportunity to train/practice in the pre-season preparatory camps and selection trials at the earliest instance, subject to clearance from the Committee of Administrators/BCCI,” stated KCA in an official letter to the BCCI.
Now, Sreesanth himself has written to the Committee of Administrators (CoA) seeking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play in the league matches in Scotland.
Here is an extract from S Sreesanth’s letter to CoA
“Even though I made repeated requests to lift the ban, particularly in the light of the discharge order of the learned Patiala Assistant Sessions Court, the authority concerned has not taken any positive decision in this regard. As a last resort, I was constrained to approach the high court of Kerala which quashed the ban and other punishment imposed against me pursuant to the disciplinary proceedings.
“The court also observed that there was no material or evidence before the disciplinary committee to conclude that I was guilty of the violation of the Anti Corruption Code formulated by the BCCI. In the light of the above specific direction, I request you to grant No Objection Certificate to participate in the Premier League to be held at Scotland with immediate effect, so as to enable me to participate in the match. I also request you to take appropriate decision to enable me to resume my cricket career both at national and international level without any further delay. Looking forward in anticipation.”
