Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Orange Army, is back with the man who helped them lift the coveted IPL trophy in 2016. Australia southpaw David Warner has been assigned the captaincy duties for this season and Hyderabad will be aiming to add another title in their showcase.
Sunrisers Hyderabad were led by Kane Williamson and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar in 2019. Despite qualifying for the Playoffs, SRH failed to pave their way into the final as they suffered a slim 2-wicket defeat against Delhi Capitals.
With Warner at the helm, SRH are expected to mount a title challenge this season. It was Warner’s aggressive batting and captaincy that had steered the side to their maiden IPL title in 2016. The Australian stalwart is expected to replicate his heroics and guide them to glory yet again.

SRH to rely on the Warner-Bairstow duo at the top
Equipped with a robust top-order, SRH have the likes of Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Kane Williamson and Manish Pandey to steer them off to a flying start. For their IPL 2020 campaign, SRH have also bolstered their side with the addition of India Under-19 World Cup skipper Priyam Garg and West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder who replaced injured Mitchell Marsh.
Along with Holder, the Hyderabad has a plethora of all-rounder options to pick. To contribute in both the departments, SRH have the likes of Vijay Shankar, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan. However, it will be an arduous task for the side to create a space for both Nabi and Rashid.
With Bairstow, Warner and Williamson on top, SRH will have no option but to let make a choice between the two Afghanistan stalwarts. Moreover, Sunrisers don’t have a reliable finisher in their squad and they’ll be heavily relying on Pandey and Shankar to do the job.
Talking about the bowling force, veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar is expected to lead from the front. The 30-year-old pacer hasn’t played a professional game since December 2019. Itching to return to the game, Bhuvneshwar will be hoping to make his presence felt in the UAE.
To complement the Meerut pacer, SRH also have the likes of Khaleel Ahmed, Sandeep Sharma, Basil Thampi and Siddarth Kaul. However, the true strength of SRH lies in Rashid’s leg-spin brilliance in UAE conditions. Regarded as one of the best T20I bowlers in the world, Rashid can single-handedly dismantle batting attacks on UAE wickets.
One of the favourites to clinch the IPL 2020 trophy, Sunrisers Hyderabad began their journey in the most forgettable ways losing to the RCB. However, they will be keen to come back strongly against KKR in their second game.
