SRH lost the final of IPL 2024 to KKR
12 Min Read

Sunrisers Hyderabad have performed quite well right from their maiden-title-winning campaign in 2016 to 2020. They have qualified for playoffs in each of the seasons from 2016 to 2020. They also finished as the runners-up in the 2018 edition. However, nothing went well for them in the next two seasons. Kolkata Knight Riders, on the other hand, won the tournament in 2012 and 2014, but could not repeat their success in the following years. However, they did reach the finals of IPL 2021 where they were defeated by CSK.
Not having qualified for the playoffs in 2022 or 2023, these two teams faced each other in the final of IPL 2024.

KKR has the upper hand when it comes to the previous record between the two teams. They have met in 28 IPL matches of which 19 have been won by KKR, including one in a superover, while SRH have won the remaining 9.

Hyderabad vs Kolkata Last Meeting
The two teams last met in match 15 of IPL 2024 held at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. SRH put KKR in and put pressure with early wickets. The pitch was slower than the previous games at this stadium, and KKR's middle order had to rebuild the innings. Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi put KKR in a primed position from where Venkatesh Iyer took off. Iyer had been struggling initially, but found a second wind in the death overs popping off with important boundaries and helping KKR to 200. Vaibhav Arora brought his best to the powerplay prising out two important wickets in the first six overs. Harshit Rana too bowled economically with the field restrictions and the pressure kept on piling up. The match was done by the halfway point, but Varun Chakravarthy found enough space to squeeze out the tail and doom SRH to their biggest loss ever.
