Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) both kick start their respective IPL 2023 campaigns by facing each other in Match 4 of the sixteenth edition on April 02 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. SRH will be led by their new skipper Aiden Markram while Sanju Samson remains at the helm for RR.
Jos Buttler, who smashed 863 runs, single-handedly took his RR side into the finals of the 2022 season. They lost the summit clash to new comers Gujarat Titans at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. RR could only finish third in 2024 after losing the second qualifier to SRH. On the other hand, after winning their maiden title in 2016, SRH managed to progress to the final four in all the editions, except for years 2021, 2022 and 2023. They also reached the finals of IPL 2018, only to lose it to the Chennai Super Kings. SRH started on a dream run in 2024 before eventually finishing runners up by losing the final to a similarly rejuvenated KKR.

Travis Head was also kept quiet for the most part of the match and SRH struggled in the middle overs. Heinrich Klaasen struck a well made fifty but Sandeep Sharma and Avesh Khan denied SRH to keep them restricted to 175. Yashasvi Jaiswal started the chase very aggressively, but once he fell to Shahbaz Ahmed, the latter teamed up with Abhishek Sharma as the two left arm spinners took 5 wickets between them conceding just 47 to break RR's back in the middle overs. Dhruv Jurel tried to breathe life back into the innings with a fifty, but even he couldn't save RR from impending doom.
