12 Min Read

Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals both made the playoffs in IPL 2024 with their respective captains Pat Cummins and Sanju Samson being almost talismanic to their team's fortunes.
Jos Buttler, who smashed 863 runs, single-handedly took his RR side into the finals of the 2022 season. They lost the summit clash to new comers Gujarat Titans at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. RR could only finish third in 2024 after losing the second qualifier to SRH. On the other hand, after winning their maiden title in 2016, SRH managed to progress to the final four in all the editions, except for years 2021, 2022 and 2023. They also reached the finals of IPL 2018, only to lose it to the Chennai Super Kings. SRH started on a dream run in 2024 before eventually finishing runners up by losing the final to a similarly rejuvenated KKR.

SRH vs RR in the last meeting:
The last meeting between the two former champions was in Match 2 of IPL 2025. As expected, it was a run fest in Hyderabad. SRH pumped up the pace in the powerplay with Travis Head and Ishan Kishan at the forefront of the carnage. Travis Head dazzled with a 67, but Kishan stole the show by becoming the first Indian player to score an IPL century for SRH, in his first match for the Orange Army nonetheless. SRH's lower order brought out their own hits to lead the hosts to the second highest IPL total of all time - 286. In between, Jofra Archer conceded 76 runs from his four overs - the most in IPL history. RR lost early wickets, but found stability in fifties from Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel. Shimron Hetmyer then made perfect use of the stage to take RR as close as possible as they finished with 242. The match aggregate of 529 was the second highest in T20 history.
